Cuisinart Griddler

I love my Panini press!

panini32This holiday season I treated myself to a long coveted Panini press. After much research and visiting various cooking stores to check out the options, I finally selected the Cuisinart Griddler. This baby offers four different cooking options: a contact grill, a Panini press, and a large, open-faced double grill or griddle. The floating hinge makes adjusting to different food thicknesses a cinch.

A true multitasker, this innovative appliance gives me plenty of mouth-watering options—from a delectable Panini or stuffed French toast to grilled seafood and veggies. The interchangeable nonstick cooking plates make it a snap to convert from a Panini press to a griddle or grill. There’s even an adjustable temperature control that regulates the heat and an indicator light letting me know when it’s at the desired temperature.

I am totally digging this machine although I have to admit, not all of my Paninis have been faultless. panini22The occasional wrong choice of bread made some creations fall flat, as the bread must be dense enough to hold its own. Naan is an excellent choice because it grills well yet is not as thick as Panini bread. My favorites to date are:

  • Brie with olive and fig tapenade
  • Flank steak with caramelized onions and blue cheese
  • Fresh mozzarella with Thai basil, sliced tomato and prosciutto
  • Grilled duck with cherry chutney and grilled red onions

Best of all—I can now make a perfectly seared tuna!
