About

Savory Seattle is a blog devoted to local restaurant reviews, chef interviews, original recipes, food-related tips and discoveries,  local culinary events, farmers market finds and more. An unfolding of my culinary adventures in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, this blog chronicles things that I’m moved by, interested in and excited about. I don’t get paid for my opinion; I dine, shop and travel on my own dime. I may write about products, local vendors and restaurants that I love but am in no way associated with nor compensated by any of them.

SAVORY: an herb so bold and peppery in its flavor that since the time of the Saxons it has come to denote not only the herb itself, but also a whole segment of cooking. It is synonymous with tasty and flavorful foods.

Kelly LenihanI feel quite lucky to live in savory Seattle, a city where dining has been elevated to art. A city offering culinary adventures long on innovation, artistry, and superior ingredients among a selection of diverse cuisines and top-notch establishments. As an avowed foodie, my mission is to find and dine at some of these incredible restaurants where innovative chefs are fusing high-quality, locally foraged, seasonal and sustainably grown ingredients with shared references from global cultures–plating meals that not only entice all the senses but also provide a vicarious international experience.

Joining me in my quest are members of Supper Club Seattle, a social dining club I founded for the sole purpose of sharing with new friends the opportunity to experience good food, fine wine, and stimulating conversation in some of the finest restaurants the region has to offer. Sitting around a table with a group of people who don’t know each other, ranging in age from 20s to 60s, spanning a diverse spectrum of careers, never feels intimidating because of the common thread binding us–our penchant for good food. I would have to say that a pleasant side benefit has been the lively, interesting conversations that happen during these meals…new friendships are forged, ideas are shared, and we all leave the table having experienced something wondrous.

In addition to my passion for discovering amazing restaurants, I also enjoy cooking inventive dishes using eclectic, ethnic, gourmet and organic ingredients. I tend to get my food inspiration by spending time at various markets, traditional and farmers, slowly and deliberately perusing the aisles. I usually start in the produce section, looking to see what’s fresh and glorious, creating menu plans on the fly and filling my basket with ingredients necessary for the dishes already running amok in my imagination. It’s great fun to discover unusual fruits or vegetables that I might not find in a typical grocery store and figuring out what to do with them. For me, cooking is not about following the rules and getting it right, I rarely use recipes. Rather, cooking is about being creative and enjoying the process, the journey is the reward. Best of all, I am able to share my passion for food with my teenage son. We are currently developing a cookbook together, and in the process, my son has turned into a fine chef himself.

Enjoy Savory Seattle…I hope it inspires you to be creative in the kitchen, experience new restaurants, and enjoy our savory city from a whole new perspective!

Warm regards,

Kelly Lenihan
